Rockville, Maryland
King of the Nations Christian Fellowship is located in Rockville, Maryland. This new two story building is approximately 28,000 square feet and contains classrooms, two warming kitchens, reception halls, a 450 seats sanctuary and administrative offices. MCE has provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical and fire protection engineering documents for this new church at a design development level with sufficient detail and equipment schedules for pricing purposes.
The mechanical system includes roof top variable air volume units with gas fired roof top units for the building other than the sanctuary. Medium pressure ductwork is extended from the roof top unit to the VAV terminal units for each thermal zone; low pressure ductwork distributes conditioned air to ceiling diffusers. The sanctuary is provided with a constant volume roof top unit with gas fired furnace and variable frequency drive. The sanctuary roof top unit varies air volume in response to space temperature sensor and direct expansion cooling capacity is energized in stages to maintain discharge air setting and space humidity. This method of control has been effective controlling spaces with large cooling load variations due to occupants. High density spaces are provided with CO2 sensor and demand controlled ventilation to reduce outside air quantities when building is not fully occupied.
Gas fired domestic water heaters are used to produce domestic hot water to supply plumbing fixtures with domestic hot water requirements. New domestic water service and sprinkler water service are provided. New sprinkler protection is provided throughout the building.
A new 277/480 volt electrical service is designed to provide power to the building. Use of 277/480 instead of 120/208 volt service was selected to keep the electrical room with one means of egress. New lighting layout, wiring and switching is provided. A new fire alarm system is also provided.
