Washington, DC
The 147,000 square foot former District of Columbia public school building is being renovated to serve more than 1000 pre-K-12th grade KIPP DC students. New energy efficient HVAC system and lighting system reduced the annual energy consumption of the building (building energy cost) by 32 percent over the baseline building system recommended by ASHRAE 90.1-2004.
New 265/460 volt, 3 phase electrical service and switchboard was provided to feed the new electrical loads and the existing 208/120 volt, 3 phase switchboard. This scheme allowed the existing 120/208 volt, 3 phase switchboard and other existing equipment to remain operational during construction.
New plumbing system was designed throughout the school. Efficient plumbing fixtures were selected to reduce water consumption by 40% over the fixture performance requirements mandated by the energy policy act of 1992.
