National Presbyterian Church

Rockville, Maryland

National Presbyterian Church established in 1947 was moved to its present location, a 12 acre land on Nebraska Avenue in late 1960’s. The church is over 50,000 square feet with a 1,250 seat main sanctuary space.

MCE provided mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineering to replace the church’s original mechanical system installed in the late 1960’s. The project construction cost was 1.5 million dollars.

GMajor engineering work included:

  • 1. Facility assessment of existing conditions and providing suggestions for improvements.
  • 2. Replacing existing constant volume air handling units with more efficient variable air volume system.
  • 3. Replacing existing chiller with more efficient chiller with primary secondary flow pumping. Sectional chillers were used to fit within existing building constraints.
  • 4. Addition of a heat recovery chiller to reclaim chiller’s heat of rejection to reheat conditioned air to maintain space temperature and humidity in the cooling season.
  • 5. Augment existing gas fired humidifier capacity with a new gas fired humidifier to maintain 45 to 55 percent humidity in the sanctuary to protect mill-work and the organ.
  • 6. Replace existing cooling tower with variable frequency fan control.
  • 7. Provide a new direct digital control system to control and manage the new equipment.
